keyboard-621830_1280The smallest gestures can go a long way. Life happens. That is just the way it  goes. We are up and we are down. The most important thing is that we do go along life’s journey alone.  I know that these things have helped me in times of sadness.

Here are three things phrases that can change someone’s world.

# 1  You’re not alone.
Depression can feel like driving through a dark tunnel that you’re navigating alone. It’s important for loved ones to make it clear to those suffering that they don’t have to journey this road alone. When a person is depressed, one of the feelings many people experience is an overwhelming sense of loneliness — that no one can understand what they’re going through. They are all alone.

#2 What can I do for you?

By offering to do something with them — whether it’s going for a walk or just sitting on the couch — you’re sending the message that you’re open to being a source of comfort. That also means keeping a normal, day-to-day schedule.

#3 I’ll just sit right here with you.

Sometimes your presence alone can be supportive enough for someone who is suffering from depression. The most important thing to say is in your actions as well as your words. It lets that person know that you’re not giving up.

If it is more serious than a passing emotional phase you may need to get them some help.
