The stage production of ‘Aladdin’ on Broadway is absolutely breathtaking in color and thought. At first thought adults might shrug off this play as merely something to take the kids to.
You would be absolutely wrong! Here three reasons why you should see the play Aladdin!
#1. The story of self worth is contemporary. How many times a day ow struggle with who we are because we struggle with the world’s perception of who we are. It’s something we all face, to some degree, I think. The key question: how do you overcome that fear? If you believe that you are not very competent, not very smart, not very attractive, etc. … that can be changed. Aladdin makes choices based on his self worth and what he thinks he is worth. The young man that plays the lad currently hits it out the park. You really feel his frustration. Aladdin and his merry band of three depict all the self esteem issues we face each day.
#2 Keep your promises matter. Know your principles and live them. Everything we do in life is a choice, and I think most of us realize that. But what most people don’t seem to realize is that everything we don’t do in life is also a choice. Self-esteem, confidence, health, meaningful relationships, honesty, loyalty, self-discipline, compassion, accepting others as they are… the list goes on and on. They were all qualities of purposive action that can never be obtained as an object but that can be put into action from time to time. They were also standards of good behavior that the society expected of me… or a perfect citizen. Aladdin, Jasmine and Sultan all visit what having principles mans throughout the play. When you see them materialize on stage, you are stunned that you have some of the same shortcomings. The actors deliver on storytelling.
#3 Choose to check on what the real honesty level is around you. Sure that sounds simple. Aladdin is tempted by the riches of the world. He puts his essence of person at risk attempting to live a lie because he believes what th world tells him what success and worth is. How often do we do a gut check of the motives of the world?
Plato once said:
“People are like dirt. They can either nourish you and help you grow as a person or they can stunt your growth and make you wilt and die.”
Jesus said the same thing in his parables when he warned against putting down roots in poor soil. If we are not nourished, our souls will choke and wither away. It has been said that we grow where we are planted, and rich soil is likened to a noble and good heart. Pick your friends with care—they create the environment in which you will either thrive or wilt. Give everyone the opportunity to be a friend, but share your dreams and goals only with those who value them as much as you do.being overly manipulated by people is something that is overlooked and taken as a given, but it doesn’t have to be that way. The debaters, the complainers, the victims, the angry, the rude, the needy, and those who think you are obligated to live your life for them … in brief the people who drain your resources should be eliminated. Aladdin learned what friendship means. As adults we need to be reminded what friendship looks like from time to time.
The play delivers great musical tributes to these basic ideas. Emotions are big. Voices were big and dances were colorful fantastical dreams that lifted both your spirits and mind. James Monroe Iglehart, as the genie, is a spirit guide filled with humor as the genie. You love watching him on stage. You sit in your seat and just feel like he is a close friend chatting with you. The music is uplifting and inspiring.
I suggest that you get a ticket sooner rather than latter. It is a must see.
