gospel musicA Dove Award is an accolade by the Gospel Music Association (GMA) of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the Christian music industry. The awards are presented annually.

The Gospel Music Association (GMA) performers and presenters for the 47th Annual GMA Dove Awards were Matthew West, Big Daddy Weave, Greater Vision, Jonathan McReynolds, Joseph Habedank, Karen Peck & New River, Kingdom Heirs. The Isaacs performed. Lecrae, Danny Gokey, Donald Lawrence, Hillary Scott, Jason Ingram, Jonathan Butler, LeAndria Johnson, Matt Maher, Michael Jr., Chris Cleveland (of Stars Go Dim) and Veritas will present along with hosts for KING & COUNTRY and Tye Tribbett.

The Big winners this year were

Gospel Artist of the Year: Kirk Franklin

Pop Contemporary Album of the Year: “THIS IS NOT A TEST”!

Songwriter of the Year (Non-Artist): Jason Ingram

Musical of the Year: “That’s Where The Story Begins”

Children’s Musical of the Year:“The Kingdom Connection”

Recorded Music Packaging: “Empires”

In 1998 the GMA published a new definition of gospel music. According to the definition, to be considered eligible for the Dove Awards, gospel music must have lyrics that are:

  • Substantially based upon historically orthodox Christian truth contained in or derived from the Holy Bible
  • An expression of worship of God or praise for His works; and /or
  • Testimony of relationship with God through Christ; and/or
  • Obviously prompted and informed by a Christian world view.

Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) will exclusively air the awards show on Sunday, October 16.
