Thanksgiving comes once a year. Being grateful should be part of your life. I know, it’s easier said than done, bit you should try it. Once you live a life of gratitude, very little will either you. I am not saying that your life will become easier. I am saying that you will find that fewer things bother you.
Here are things that can kickstart your gratitude meter.
1. Open your eyes to more of the world around. You can enhance your gratitude when you actually take a look at the things happening in your world. Make a game out of noticing new things each day. You will be amazed by the things that pop up in your immediate eyesight. Put your phone down and look up.
2. Focus your gratitude on people for whom we’re thankful rather than circumstances or material items will enhance the benefits we experience. And while you’re at it, why not include others directly into your expression of gratitude? Imagine what graces you will have when you share what you have with others. Remember the old adage.. you can’t take it with you.
3. Recognize and enjoy life’s small pleasures. Holiday seasons tend to bring people down. Don’t let it. Enjoy the decorations that hang above your head. Walk through a department store and enjoy the sights and sounds. Sing out loud to your favorite song. If it makes you happy, make it so.
Whether or not these attitudes come to you naturally, paying attention to life’s positives can train you to see more and more of them, which will help you learn to be more grateful.
