The movie opens up in the summer of 1982, the young Sam Brenner and Will Cooper play in the arcade, and Brenner’s excellence leads him to enter an arcade game world championships. At the event, the MC tells everyone that a time capsule will be launched into space containing elements of the present culture. Brenner and Cooper meet Ludlow Lamonsoff, a weird but brilliant kid who’s in love with Lady Lisa (the main character of the game Dojo Quest). After Brenner gets through every game, he faces hotshot gamer Eddie Plant in Donkey Kong. Eddie mentions the pattern to the game, causing Brenner to lose focus and come in second place.
Fast forward to the present and aliens intercept video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack Earth, using the games as models. Knowing that he must employ a similar strategy, President Will Cooper (Kevin James) recruits his childhood pal, former video-game champ and home-theater installer Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), to lead a team of old-school arcade players (Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad) and a military specialist (Michelle Monaghan) to save the planet.
It’s a fun movie for with plenty of nostalgic moments. Those of us who actually remember going to arcades can smile and appreciate he many silent winks Adam Sandler gives to us. Much like every movie with Adam Sandler there is a message, a light hearted joke or two and some fun.
I found this movie to be fun for summer.Light and enjoyable. If you are looking for a movie with clean content that doesn’t offend this is the one. Kuso to Mr. Sandler for making a movie we the whole family can enjoy.
I can’t wait until this is on dvd and I can add it. It gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling for the childhood memories of the arcade.
