The Good: The movie actually starts in a positive way by showing the relationship between Johnny Story and Sue Storm in afresh imaginative way. They even wink at the surprise they are sure teh viewers will catch. I appreciated that. It allows for a much more contemporary realistic feel. It will also allow for a more subtle story, should the franchise continue. (doubtful since it did not do great it’s opening weekend)  The fight scenes were pretty good.

The Bad: Too slow in the middle. The 10 minutes it takes to set up for one of the characters to return is far too much.  They could have used his  conscience as push  to make him pursue instead of acquiesce.

The Strange: Why are we not privy to what was happening to the villain?  We could have done with a few set up shots to give us context.  We are cheated out of that story. It would have been cool to see the evolution of evil. Oh and let the kids mourn. It appears all the characters re devoid of their natural emotions.  Let’s dive into their emotions at being ‘freaky’. It seems they all just settled that they were odd. Not buying it.

Potential: If the portal is open, then let’s explore what could have come back and find what has happened because of these “rips”.  They obviously have been playing with it. All that dust could not be just waste. We need to follow Johnny’s pain. We need to feel  Sue’s distance. WE need to mourn Ben and Reed’s friendship for just a bit.

That was the big missing part for me. The friendship and care for each other was missing on screen.  I think in trying to focus on them being young they, didn’t focus  on the maturity  that come with the burden. It comes across silly and forced on screen with the in-fighting being portrayed as part of their youthful indiscretion. Of course this, those things may be  on the editing room floor.

It will be interesting to see the extras on the dvd. Otherwise, I would have to say that this is one to add to your collection if you are collector, but not one you will watch all the time.
