How can you go wrong with a musical? In the Heights, once a Broadway play, now is a film that brings all the richness, smartness and potential of New York City to the movie screen. It stars the multi talented Anthony Ramos. I can never say too much about this Bushwick Brooklyn grown young man. He makes you proud to be a Brooklyn born native.
Usnavi de la Vega tells children the story of Washington Heights. Usnavi owns a bodega, and introduces: Abuela Claudia, the matriarch of the neighborhood who raised him; Kevin Rosario, who runs the taxi company; Kevin’s employee and Benny; the salon ladies Daniela, Carla, and Cuca; Vanessa, Usnavi’s love interest; and Usnavi’s cousin Sonny.
Alejandro, Usnavi’s attorney, informs Usnavi that his late father’s business in the Dominican Republic, which Usnavi dreams of reviving, is for sale. Meanwhile, Kevin’s daughter Nina returns from Stanford. After seeing Benny, she finds her father and tells him she was unable to pay tuition, but he brushes her off, telling her not to worry. The film is filled with with, fun and fun moments of music.

Fun fact in the Broadway show Usnavi was played by Lin Manuel Miranda who plays the fun Piraguero who sells the sweet icees on the street. His stiff competition is Mr Softee played by Christopher Jackson who played Graffiti Pete in the play.
