Ageing Out is a term used broadly to describe becoming too old for any particular program or situation, or euphemistically, to refer to dying or retiring.

MTV’s VMAS rides a precarious line of aging its own self out.
On Sunday night, MTV’s oldest staple The MTV Awards broadcasted their awards show on what is sarcastically called the Senior channel aka CBS. It was fully ironic because the intention was likely to broaden the eyeball visibility and to add youth to a brand that is described as being for old people.
The artists that were honored and saluted to last night are now considered old. MTV actually is middle aged now. How about that? In truth, music never was an agist thing. If you look at music up until the mid 1990s there were all types of genres charting and playing.
Music videos introduced a visual components to your favorite bands. Last night we saw Doja Cat do an entire set that was an ode to the 1980s, The Time, Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson.
The show’s pre show lacked energy and direction. The promotion for the show was lackluster. The biggest moments were from senior artists and younger artists with few exceptions seemed to just phone it in from their tour stages.
Did its back give out? Are its knees cracking? It definitely showed its age. The best performances of the night came from Doja, Ricky, Mariah and Gaga. The Ozzy tribute was the best rock tribute on stage in a long time.
The next big music award show is the Billboard Music Awards which are scheduled for December 12, 2025. Let’s see what happens next.
