According to the film’s synopsis, the attorney follows his convictions and “uncovers a dark secret that connects a growing number of unexplained deaths due to one of the world’s largest corporations. In the process, he risks everything — his future, his family, and his own life — to expose the truth.”
Also featured in the Todd Haynes-directed film are Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins, Bill Camp, Victor Garber, Mare Winningham, William Jackson Harper and Bill Pullman.
The film’s trailer shows a farmer taking the attorney to his property where 190 cows were killed by chemicals contaminating the drinking water which is also poisoning the townspeople.
“DuPont is knowingly poisoning 70,000 local residents for the last 40 years,” Bilott (Ruffalo) is heard telling his wife (Hathaway).
He is later seen confronting the chemical company’s head (Garber).
“They have all the money, all the firepower and they’ll use it. I know, I was one of them,” Bilott says in the film. “Our government is captive to DuPont.”
“Dark Waters” will hit select theaters on Nov. 22, followed by a wide release on Nov. 29.
