Love comes easy on good days, when our self-esteem stands tall on our accomplishments. Thankful thoughts encourage you to be grateful in the moment.
It’s when we fail that our self-directed goodwill often deserts us. Suddenly, we remember all our faults. Our internal monologue muddies us with harsh judgments. We blame and shame ourselves for our pain.
We abandon ourselves and look to whoever (and whatever) would give us comfort. One way to winning back our own hearts and reclaiming our well-being is through self-compassion.
It is important to be kind to yourself.
Consider the ways you care for yourself when things are going well (such as exercising, being with friends, listening to music). Do your best to incorporate some of these ways into your life during difficult times.
Remember, you yourself deserve your kindness. Every day carve out some time for yourself and do something that brings you joy. Forgive Yourself. We all mess up. If you’re angry at yourself, you need to show yourself kindness: stop blaming yourself, resolve to do better from now on, and forgive yourself. Get enough sleep, eat fruits and vegetables, and get some form of exercise on a regular basis. In addition, choose a way to release stress, be well groomed, and look after your appearance.
Remember you were made good.
