The oldest perfumes ever found were discovered by archeologists in Cyprus. They were more than four thousand years old. A cuneiform tablet from Mesopotamia, dating back more than three thousand years, identifies a woman named Tapputi as the first recorded perfume maker. The earliest use of perfume bottles is Egyptian and dates to around 1000 BC. The Egyptians invented glass and perfume bottles were one of the first common uses for  that glass. They knew that scent triggered memories and reactions.

All women come to a point in their lives where they love to smell good. I am a personal fan of that Dior quote.No matter where I go I love to smell great. My mother could enter a room and enfold it with the smell of “Wind Song”.  Everyone knew she had been in a room because the faint smell would leave the whisper of a memory. The commercial for the perfume had the catch phrase, “I Can’t seem to forget you/ your wind song stays on my mind. ” The commercial was edgy for its time. I remember being a little girl and watching her getting dressed and seeing her finish up her dressing ritual with a spritz of that beautiful bottle. When she left the bindings of this world, I made sure that they sprayed her coffin with it. It was a fragrant reminder of the woman she had been. She would always say that a woman should always smell good.

It was a lesson that etched its mark on my essence.

That’s what the scent of a woman can do for you. In the 20th century, clothing designers began marketing their own lines of scents, and almost any celebrity with a lifestyle brand can be found hawking a perfume with their name (if not smell) on it.   I say all that, to say that below, are a few of best ways  that I know a woman can trademark her scent.

1- How does that scent smell on you? Not everything fits on you. If something smells off on you, don’t put it on. So many women make that mistake.

2- How does it make you feel?  Shower gels and lotions can lift your spirits and make your skin soft Victoria’s Secret  has mastered invoking feelings with the scents. They have wonderful titles like; ‘Secret Escape’,’Aqua Kiss’, ‘Simply Breathless’. Each smells delectable.

3- One surefire way to create a truly unique scent is by becoming an amateur chemist and mixing fragrances. I do it all the time and it’s wonderful.

Each time someone leans over and sniffs me I recall my mother.
