Season 5’s episode one, titled ‘Sister Dissed Him‘, of Mary Mary  has the return of Erica and Tina in different places.

The episode opens focused on Warryn Campbell  feeling pressured by Sony Records to deliver a new Mary Mary  album. Of course, had it been at the end of last season, it  would have easy to get Tina in the studio.  When we left the sisters Warryn, Teddy and Erica had  encouraged Tina to go solo. Erica was focusing on her career. A new Mary Mary album was out of the plan.

This week we opened the season with five teachings from Tina.

They are:

Lesson # 1Work hard but watch how you treat yourself when you are working hard.

Tina was spending so much time working, that by her own admission she was not watching what she was eating. Some people focus all their energy on burning off calories that they don’t take the time to consider what they’re putting in as fuel. Diet is at least 80% of the battle. While the exact foods you should be eating depend heavily on your body type, metabolism, and other factors, a good rule of thumb is to stick to all natural, whole foods.

Lesson #2Make sure that you keep a solid team around you that can do long term planning.

That is a lesson that most big corporations suffer with. Tina needed to  build and book dates herself. The dates started falling apart. The lesson here is to always make sure that there is a plan b. Make supplemental plans that can support things that you do. You may want the big picture but like the lyric says, ‘It’s okay to crawl before you walk.’

Lesson # 3  Be Consistent with self kindness

People must see that changes aren’t temporary or one-offs but part of an enduring, ongoing process. The more changes for the better are implemented and stay implemented, the more likely you will be to succeed.  Tina  started to worry and be overwhelmed with the stresses of booking her tour. Erica reminded her that she needed to do something that took the weight off her shoulders and allowed her to breathe, to be creative. Erica’s look of concern when she walked into Tina’s office spoke volumes.

Lesson #4 Be Realistic.

It’s OK to make a major career change, but you also have to be realistic about it. Tina was trying to manage everything at one time. No person is humanly possible of managing everything without some help.

Lesson #5 Remember happiness is a choice and prayer is necessary

Tina knew that she had to do something that could refocus. When she went outside to cry on the name of Jesus. That in itself was such a powerful moment.  Teaching yourself to see that happiness is a choice has been one of the greatest things we can do. True happiness is found when we place trust in Christ before our will.
