‘We’re The Campbells’ focused this week on the family dynamic. Warryn and Erica record a duet for the first time ever; Joi heads to Atlanta to perform on the PJ Morton Tour; Erica switches up her plans for a room makeover when Krista and Zaya prove to be ungrateful because they bicker over a room design.

Most of us shared bedrooms with our siblings and just coped. It started me thinking what was this really all about. This week’s episode was all about having an attitude of gratitude.

Gratitude encourages us not only to appreciate gifts but to repay them (or pay them forward.

We live in a nation where everyone is on the pursuit of happiness. Each individual has his or her own path this journey takes. For some, the search begins in books; for others it comes through service. But perhaps the most popular form of seeking happiness is through the accumulation of “things.” Materialism, though, is bought at a cost. A society that feels entitled to what it receives does not adequately express gratitude.

Most of us associate gratitude with saying “thank you” to someone who has helped us or given us a gift. From a scientific perspective, gratitude is not just an action.

Gratitude is a positive emotion, which is really important because it serves a purpose.

The acknowledgment of goodness in one’s life is . In a state of gratitude, we say yes to life. We affirm that all in all, life is good, and has elements that make it not just worth living, but rich in texture and detail.

The acknowledgment that we have received something gratifies us, both by its presence and by the effort the giver put into choosing it. Not only will this strengthen your relationships, it will actually make you a happier person.
