Kirk Franklin, gospel music’s nephew, cousin, neighbor, brother is heading to the movies. DeVon Franklin will be working on the film “Church Boy,” which will be based on his life story, for his Fo Yo Soul banner and Lionsgate Films.
Kirk’s story is a story of inspiration and encouragement. I know this personally because I have chatted with him several times over the last few years.
Franklin released his first album in 1993 called Kirk Franklin & The Family, which went platinum with over 1 million copies sold, the first gospel album to do so, and charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart for 42 weeks. He’s also behind such hits as “Looking for You”, “Revolution,” “Hosanna,” “Stomp,” “Wanna Be Happy?,” among others.
Now, he is the favored friendly host on BET’s ‘Sunday Best‘.
I cannot wait to see this film.
