Amazon Prime’s Mary J Blige’s ‘My Life’ Inspires Viewers To Keep Your Head Up

I sat through Mary J Blige’s and I can tell you I was pleasantly surprised by the candor and honesty. Of course, it made me rethink the and revisit the album.

Grammy-winning recording artist and actress Mary J. Blige reveals the demons and blessings that inspired her 1994 LP ‘My Life,’ and celebrates the 25th anniversary of her most influential work by performing the album live for the first time.

Considered to be her breakthrough album, My Life became Mary J. Blige’s second album to reach the top ten on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at number seven, and debuting at number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, where it stayed for eight weeks. In 1996, the album was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 38th Grammy Awards, while in December of the same year, the album was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, for shipments of three million copies in the United States. It also won the 1995 Billboard Music Award for Top R&B Album. In 1996, following the album’s success, MCA issued a remix EP entitled My Life Remix Album which featured artists such as LL Cool J and Lauryn Hill.

I truly loved every minute of it. Mary is candid and sincere. You get to see footage of young Mary and watch her candid reaction to it. It reminds us all that we should look back and be proud of how far we have come. It’s safe for children to watch it. This is a great summer tune in for the backyard as well. Taraji P.Henson’s interview during the film knocks it right out the park about Blige’s culture contribution.
