Black History Month means a great deal to the African America community triumph our history economically, financially, socially, spiritually and entertainment wise. Here are two of the most inspiring uplifting life changing songs in the last 50 years.
The firsts song of course falls to Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes- ‘Wakeup Everybody‘
The lyrics speak volumes:
Wake up everybody no more sleepin in bed/ No more backward thinkin time for thinkin ahead
The world has changed so very much/ From what it used to be so
There is so much hatred war an’ poverty
Wake up all the teachers time to teach a new way/ Maybe then they’ll listen to whatcha have to say
Cause they’re the ones who’s coming up and the world is in their hands
When you teach the children teach em the very best you can
The song lyrics depict the everyday struggle that folks of color face.
The next song is obvious. It is Marvin Gaye ‘What’s Going On‘.
Mother, mother/There’s too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother/There’s far too many of you dying
You know we’ve got to find a way/ To bring some lovin’ here today, yeah
Father, father/ We don’t need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer/ For only love can conquer hate
You know we’ve got to find a way/ To bring some lovin’ here today
These words still ring true to us and are a special call for us to take action.
