In September, the brand unveiled its debut product, Beauty Breast Serum, a unique formulation of botanical ingredients including parsley, snow mushroom, and guava leaf. The serum is meant for anyone with breasts, whether or not they’ve had surgery.

And in line with the brand’s name, a French word meaning “to know,” the application method for the serum follows that of a breast self-exam. “I’ve been talking to several doctors in the gynecological field who [say self-exams] should not be a once-a-month thing,” Carly Guerra said. “This should be daily.” With Savoir, Guerra empowers and educates users to take a more proactive approach. Ahead, she shares what separates Savoir from traditional body care, her personal journey with cancer, and what’s to come from the brand.

In Style interviewed her and she dropped these words of wisdom

Congratulations on launching Savoir! Why do breasts need their very own skin-care product?

The skin on this part of the body is so different from any other part of the body. It’s thinner. It has fewer oil glands, so it needs more hydration. It also expands and contracts with our monthly hormonal cycles, so it’s so important to have a formula to help with elasticity.

How is your breast serum different from a typical body cream?

Lotion is typically heavier, much more emollient, and very general for the whole body. Our serum, when the application is over, leaves a finish that just feels petal soft, so you can get dressed immediately after; you don’t have to worry about any sort of lotion transferring to your dress, your blouse, your bra. It won’t leave any residue whatsoever.

You’ve incorporated so many herbs and veggies, like parsley, radish root, and tomato seed oil. Why is that?

Growing up near Utica, N.Y., my grandmother taught me how to garden. Those are some of the things we grew together. She always taught me how healthy parsley was, that it’s a natural anti-inflammatory, and to add it to as many foods as possible. My grandmother was also diagnosed with breast cancer, and so, in honor of her, and knowing the health benefits of parsley, I wanted it to be a main ingredient.
